Amanda the Adventurer 3: Is This REALLY the End? (Review & Lore Discussion) (2025)

Confetti’s Cozy Corner: Amanda the Adventurer 3 – A Gripping Yet Flawed Finale That Leaves You Craving More

Dive into a nightmare where a kiddie TV host's smile hides unspeakable horrors – Amanda the Adventurer 3 pulls you into the heart of a sinister conspiracy that's both thrilling and maddening!

Amanda the Adventurer 3, crafted by the talented team at MANGLEDmaw Games, serves as the ultimate chapter in Amanda's tale and the shadowy enigmas surrounding the enigmatic Hameln Entertainment company. Back in 2023, we first met Amanda, the bubbly yet eerie presenter of the Amanda the Adventurer TV show, alongside her cuddly companion, Wooly. Beneath the quaint town of Kensdale lies a trove of buried secrets, and this spine-chilling wrap-up promises to unearth most of them, though not without a few frustrating loose ends.

The story picks up precisely where Amanda the Adventurer 2 (check out my previous review at https://gaymingmag.com/2025/05/confettis-cozy-corner-amanda-the-adventurer-2-review/) left off, right in the Kensdale Library, inside a clandestine elevator tucked away behind Kate's (that's Riley's aunt) office. After Joanne gives Riley a vintage VHS tape, she's ambushed by an enormous, terrifying version of Wooly. This elevator plunges you into the murky sewers under Kensdale, Ohio, guiding you toward the headquarters of Hameln Entertainment itself.

Pausing to recap the earlier games, it's crucial to note that Amanda isn't merely a spooky child mimicking a twisted take on Dora the Explorer. As you progress through the VHS tapes – those old-school video recordings that play out like interactive shows – you catch fleeting insights into Amanda's true nature. It's eerie how Amanda seems eerily aware of Riley's actions in the real world, making the experience feel intensely personal. The deeper you delve, the clearer it becomes that Amanda and Wooly aren't the inseparable pals the TV series pretends they are.

The narrative tapestry of Amanda the Adventurer is intricate, weaving in motifs and hints galore. Subtle and overt clues beyond the VHS tapes hint at the profound depths of Hameln Entertainment's mystery. Yet, despite Amanda's apparent awareness within the tapes, she appears helpless to break free from the scripted escapades dictated by those recordings. But here's where it gets controversial: Is Amanda truly powerless, or is this a deliberate choice by the creators to heighten the horror through her unwilling participation?

Gameplay mechanics mirror those in prior entries: hunt for a VHS tape, scour for clues while it plays, tackle real-world puzzles, advance to the next tape, and unlock fresh zones. Now, however, you're deep in the lair of the enemy, with risks escalating to life-or-death levels.

Across the trilogy, it unfolds that Hameln Entertainment isn't your typical media outfit – it's a clandestine cult dabbling in bizarre ceremonies and experiments involving kids. The ambient sounds in Amanda the Adventurer 3 amp up the dread, creating a constant sense of being spied on. Sure, there are a few jump scares, but it's the relentless tension in Hameln's offices that really keeps your heart pounding.

The puzzles here are grander and more demanding than before, pushing players to think harder. That said, some solutions veer into bewildering territory. Take the Healthy Foods tape puzzle, for instance: You have to feed rats a concoction called 'slop' by following the nutrition pyramid shown in the tape and Amanda's instructions. For beginners just getting into puzzle games, this means carefully matching food groups like proteins, carbs, and veggies to create the perfect meal for those critters, ensuring nutritional balance as per the guidelines.

In the game's early segments, while watching a tape, Amanda or Wooly might instruct you to halt and search the real environment for puzzle pieces. These cues are generally straightforward, detailing what Riley needs to find or do – except for that one tricky example. In other moments, a yellow flashing pause button signals when to stop the video and tackle part of the riddle.

This feature lacks consistency across the title, leading to confusion, especially with puzzles requiring you to pause and explore your surroundings. Miss the exact timing, and you might skip a whole challenge, forcing a restart. For accessibility and clarity, this yellow flash should be a reliable cue throughout. To help new players, imagine it like a helpful traffic light guiding you when to take a break from driving (the tape) to inspect the road signs (the environment).

A unsettling robot toy trails Riley between areas, offering tips on puzzles, though its advice can sometimes be as cryptic as the riddles themselves.

Once you've cracked all puzzles in a zone and proceed through a door to new territory, there's no turning back. I strongly recommend exhaustively exploring and solving everything possible first, as you can't return later. This irked me personally in Amanda the Adventurer 3; I enjoyed revisiting spots at the game's close to untangle extra mini-puzzles revealing secret tapes about Hameln's deeper corruption – focusing on their methods rather than motives. And this is the part most people miss: Those secret tapes add layers of intrigue, showing the cult's operations in a way that feels like uncovering hidden diary entries from a mad scientist.

The low-budget TV aesthetic shines through consistently, just like in the earlier games. The audio work is phenomenal, masterfully building suspense amid puzzle-solving and secret-hunting.

Compared to its predecessors, this installment feels more streamlined, with some story arcs feeling fuller. The plot remains captivating, and the lore embedded in secret tapes, artwork, and hints delivers a satisfying close to the saga. Amanda the Adventurer stands out as a horror series that delivers it all: rich backstory, startling frights, conspiracy intrigue, and enjoyable gameplay.

On balance, I'd rate Amanda the Adventurer 3 a solid 6 out of 10. The gameplay entertains, visuals hold up, and the lore will have you theorizing for hours. But let's be real – those two frustratingly obscure major puzzles and glaring plot gaps are a letdown. If this is genuinely the series' end, it's disappointing, leaving numerous unanswered questions about the lore and story.

MANGLEDmaw Games excel at crafting suspenseful worlds with deep narratives. I hope they realize fans deserve closure and avoid leaving us in a whirlwind of speculation. Team, we're pleading for one final installment to tie up the loose ends!

Rating: 6/10

What’s your take? Do you agree this series needs another game to resolve those plot holes, or is the ambiguity part of its charm? Is the cult interpretation too far-fetched, or does it add to the terror? Drop your thoughts in the comments – let's debate!
