Pretty decent

Best way to get to/from NYC for those looking for a balance between simplicity and cost effectiveness. The Newark Airport Express bus's straight shot to and from NY eliminates the headache of having to multiple stops /transfers- great for those with a bunch of luggage and/or young kiddos in tow. Great for those whose destination are near Port Authority, Bryant Park or Grand Central station (their 3 NY stops) But not super expensive like taking a cab or rideshare.

NOTE 1: If you have a need to get from NYC to EWR early in the morning, double check their schedules. The first pick up from NY to EWR did not occur until 7am and I did not check this when I had a flight scheduled to depart at 7:40. (Note: You shouldn't have the same problem getting from EWR to NY; they start dropping off passengers much earlier to NY.) Anyway, I couldn't use half of my round trip ticket. The good news is you have 365 days to use your ticket and are not bound to use it during any particular day/time.

NOTE 2: If it's a holiday like Thanksgiving, be careful. One Thanksgiving, a group of 20 of us amassed in front of a stop and it took 40+ minutes of everyone doing their own respective googling for one individual to find some obscure notice somewhere online that they were not doing pickups/dropoffs on Thanksgiving.

What you need to know about where at least 2 of the pickup stops in Manhattan are

This is a great service to and from Newark Liberty Airport. However, I want to make sure people know where to pick up the bus in Manhattan, when they are traveling to Newark Airport. It will be a bus with "Coach USA" written on it in red, white and blue.
There are 3 stops in Manhattan for pick up: Grand Central, Bryant Park, and Port Authority.
1. The Grand Central stop is on 41st and Lexington Avenue, south side, by the Japanese grocery.
2. The Bryant Park stop is on 42nd Street and 5th Avenue, north side, in front of the Zara store, a little bit towards the Chipotle Mexican Grill.
3. I do not know where the Port Authority stop is - I dared not try to waste time looking for it, because on the map it looked like it was a loading area, with construction going on all around. It's also the last stop, so if the bus is packed when it pulls up at the Port Authority stop, from what I understand, you will be out of luck and you will have to wait for the next bus.
(I wish someone had told me about the Bryant Park stop when I needed to know this yesterday, and thankfully the extremely nice shoe shine gentleman on the corner of Bryant park, told me where to go.)

Great!

Family

After reading reviews, I was worried. We met the bus one block from our hotel at 41st and Lex. You can either buy tickets in advance online at coachusa.com or buy in person with cash only with the bus driver. Adults are 19.50 and any child under 16 yrs old is 7.50. The bus was clean and air conditioned. I really have no complaints. Much much cheaper than Uber or taxi.

Buses are no-shows

Solo

Scheduled bus never showed. Waited for over an hour, along with a crowd of people also waiting for the same bus. Avoid if at all possible.

Very unreliable

Business

The schedule from NY to Newark airport usually works. From the airport to NY it’s comically unreliable. Drivers can be sketchy, I once paid cash and the driver said “no receipt if paying cash”. Of course. The train is a much, much better option, it runs more often, and the schedule is reliable.

We bought the tickets to the Newark Airport from Port Authority Bus Terminal. When the bus came ar 3:40pm, the bus was almost full. There were about thirty people waiting in the line, only 5 or 6 got in the bus.We can not wait for 45 mins for next bus and took Uber to the airport. We email the customer service for refund. There is no response after one week.

The Ride That Wasn’t'

I usually do not write about events that did not happen. However, I am eager to do so about this one!

My wife and I flew into Newark International Airport on our way to a vacation stay in NYC. Everything had gone smoothly until we exited the Newark airport.

Our plan was to use an already paid for bus ride from the airport to the Time Square area of Manhattan where our hotel is located using 's Coach USA's Newark Airport Express. We even found the place where the bus was to stop without any problem, getting there about 7:05 pm. We expected the bus momentarily since their schedule listed that as the time the bus was to leave Newark Airport.

Thinking that we must have just missed the 7:05 bus, we decided to wait for the 7:50. We did. Until 8:20!

At 8:20, we gave up and got in the queue for the taxi. At 8:26 we pulled out of the airport. Never did see the bus.

I must add that a businessperson from CA waited for over an hour with us. Nice fellow. When we decided to leave via cab we asked if he wanted a ride to Time Square. He said yes.

On the way into The City, he commented how he loved the bus we had waited for, but that its ETA was totally unpredictable. Its actual arrival time had no correlation to the scheduled time what-so-ever. It was as though the bus ran according to the whims of some ancient god!

So, are we going to try to use the bus to get back to EWR for our return flight? Of course! (And if you believe that, I have a bridge that is for sale!)

Obviously, we urge you to NOT pre-book the bus from Coach USA's Newark Express to move between Newark International Airport and Manhattan.

It was blood boiling

Solo

I stood outside for an hour. There was supposed to be a bus that came at 10pm but It never showed up. My flight landed at 9pm and I was outside waiting by 9:20pm. The bus finally came at 10:45pm and the driver told me there was supposed to be a bus that came at 10 and he was also very confused as to why it never showed up.

Better than the train but next time a private car for me!

We pre-booked this rather than use the train because we just didn't think we'd manage all the luggage on the subway and from that point of view I think it was the right decision. However, if we go again we'd definitely book a private car to meet us at the airport and take us directly to our hotel. The bus journey itself was absolutely fine - when the bus came. We waited well over half an hour for it and we were frozen by the time it arrived.

Don't take it unless you have to. The NJ transit train to Penn is more reliable, cheaper, and better. Not only have they raised their prices for less frequent service, but now they don't take credit card on board "because of the pandemic" because apparently *not* having contactless payment is better for the pandemic. After forcing to pay cash, they have raised the price to exactly $19.50 but don't carry change in board. I mean just be transparent and make it $20 at least. Also would no longer let me even buy the ticket online even though I was on the checkout page already, he the driver said he would not accept the ticket. The bus will get you where you need to go (whether it shows up on time...that's questionable), but I prefer to support businesses with more transparent practices.
