NWSC's Digital Transformation: A Champion for Utilities and Government Services (2025)

Digital Excellence: NWSC Takes the Crown!

It's official: The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has once again proven its digital prowess, clinching the coveted Utilities and Government Services Digital Excellence Award at the 12th annual Digital Impact Awards Africa on November 14, 2025. This win solidifies NWSC's reputation as a leader in leveraging digital platforms for the betterment of its customers and the efficiency of its operations.

NWSC's digital channels have become synonymous with convenience and accessibility. Customers can now bypass long queues and access their accounts and billing information anytime, thanks to the NWSC Digital Self Service Portal and mobile app. This shift towards digital solutions offers a 24/7 window into account management and bill payment history.

The system's flexibility extends to payment options, supporting mobile money and mobile banking apps. This move towards e-bills has also significantly boosted transparency in billing practices. But here's where it gets interesting: the impact of these digital advancements goes beyond mere convenience. They represent a fundamental shift in how government services are delivered.

Adding to the celebration, John Fisher Sekabira, NWSC's manager of marketing and digital communications, was honored as the Public Sector Digital Communications Champion of the Year. This recognition underscores the dedication of individuals driving digital outreach and customer service within the organization.

This isn't just a one-off achievement; it's a continuation of NWSC's decade-long commitment to digital transformation. The corporation has consistently been recognized, previously winning the Best Digital Customer Service award and the Best Government Agency on Social Media in previous Digital Impact Awards Africa events.

Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, the Minister of State for Information, Communications, and Technology, praised NWSC for its consistent excellence, highlighting its role as a top-performing government institution. She noted that NWSC is pushing the Government’s service enhancement programs.

NWSC has been celebrated as the “reigning digital impact champion for government services” in the past, securing the Diamond award for Best Utilities and Government Services multiple times. This success story was unveiled at the Digital and Financial Inclusion Summit, held at the Kampala Serena Hotel. The summit focused on the future of digital and financial services across Africa, under the theme “Maximizing the Digital Dividend.”

The Digital Impact Awards platform shines a light on organizations that are at the forefront of using digital tools to serve their communities, including those who are underbanked and underserved.
