Background Checks and Clearance Letters

We can do criminal background checks on anyone and then providea Police Clearance Letter, if requested. Police Clearance Letters may be obtained in person, by mail, or via the Miami-Dade Police Public Records Center.

You'll need to provide us with the following information if you'd like a Police Clearance Letter:

  • Name (including maiden, and other additional names)
  • Race
  • Sex
  • Date of Birth
  • Requestor's name, address, and telephone number


Fingerprinting Services

Fingerprinting services are provided at specific District Stations throughout the County. For fingerprinting services, you must bring $15 and:

  • Two valid formsof ID, at least one with a photo
  • Fingerprinting card

We do not provide fingerprinting cards. Fingerprinting cards should be provided by the organization requesting that you get fingerprinting done.

Identity Theft

Victims of Criminal Case Identity Theft may request an Identity Letter from the MDPD Forensic Services Bureau, Fingerprint Identification Section to resolve an identity crisis. Identity Letters may be issued in person via an appointment or requested through U.S. mail:

Schedule an appointment online. Please complete the Identity Theft Information Formand bring a government issued picture ID (driver’s license, U.S. Passport, U.S. Military ID Card, etc.) with you to your appointment.

The following documents must be submitted by mail for an Identity Letter:

  • Certified Fingerprint Card with the victim’s fingerprints completed by an MDPD District Station or local police agency. (Note: The fingerprint card must have a certified police stamp and be signed by the person fingerprinting the victim).
  • Copy of the victim’s government issued picture ID front/back
  • Identity Theft Information Form
